Adoption ProcessOur adoption process starts with our application. Once the application is approved, a member of Legacy will contact you to set up a home visit. The home visit usually last 1-1.5 hours and is to make sure our dog and any current dogs/cats are getting along, as well as both of us agreeing it's a fit. At this time the adoption fee is due, and begins the 2 week trial. We will check in during the 2 week trial. If it's not working, our dog is returned to the foster home and all except $ 100.00 of the adoption fee is returned. At the end of the 2 week trial, we decide together if everything is working out well, then we finalize the adoption - if finalized, the Adoption Contract is signed and all medical records are turned over to you, as well as the microchip information.
If at any time you can not keep the dog it contractually needs to be returned to Legacy Dog Rescue. However, we take our placements very seriously and believe a pet is for life, so please make sure you are ready to make that commitment when applying for any pet. Our adoption radius is 1.5 hours driving distance of Youngstown, Ohio. You must own your home and be 21 years or older. ADOPTION FEES: Puppies under 6 months: $199.00 Adults: $150.00 Seniors (over 7 yrs): $99.00 If you are interested in one of our dogs please fill out an application |

Foster Home Process
If you are considering fostering a dog, Thank You - it will save a life and it is very rewarding.
We can only save dogs if we have foster homes available.
Legacy provides all medical needs including monthly heartworm prevention and flea prevention.
Food is also provided by Legacy. You will be required to provide the daily care and love to your foster dog.
You would need to be able to transport your foster to the vet when needed.
We do ask you try to bring your foster to as many of our events as possible and provide us with new pictures often, videos if possible.
Pictures with kids, cats and/or other dogs show potential adopters that they fit in with that lifestyle.
PLEASE do not go into fostering a dog thinking it's easy. It's a serious commitment,
not to be taken lightly, or decided on emotion. These dogs have sometimes been thru so much - they need time to decompress and learn to trust again.
They will have accidents in your house. They may chew up something of yours. They may have an altercation or two with your current pets as they learn the ropes. They may need additional training classes (thru DogSmartz Unleashed) where you teach, train and transport your foster dog.
They may be heartworm positive and require additional medical care and cage rest. You may have your foster dog a short time or a long time, there is no way for us to know that; but you are making the commitment to foster until adopted.
If you can make this commitment, please apply here to save a life
